Everything you need to know about Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions

We fell right into it! And as real gamers we should have expected it. As you already know, all of us, including myself, have complained and puzzled about the lack of Quidditch, the famous game of Harry Potter, in Hogwarts Legacy. So what happened then? A new multiplayer game has just been announced that will keep us glued to the monitor.

In fact Warner Bros. Games and Portkey Games have just announced Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, an online multiplayer sports game focused exclusively on the popular Wizarding World game of Quidditch. Players will be able to team up with friends, battle against rivals and prove they are the finest Seekers around. WOW!

This the announcement:

What is Quidditch Champions?

According to the FAQ, Quidditch Champions will allow players to “partake in the Wizarding World’s iconic sport and other broomstick adventures alongside friends in a competitive, multiplayer setting.” The game (obviously)  requires a constant internet connection to play.

Quidditch Champions is being developed by Unbroken Studios. While the Portkey Games label indicates these titles are not direct adaptations of the books or films, “the games are firmly rooted in the magical universe of the Wizarding World. While remaining true to J.K. Rowling’s original vision, Portkey game developers chart new territory by creating fresh ways for fans to immerse themselves in the Wizarding World.”

The Multiplayer

Players can compete in 3-vs-3 and 4-vs-4 matches of Quidditch in the game, with additional broomstick mechanics like loop-the-loops and dive bombing. Different game modes provide new challenges and objectives to complete on the pitch. Players can also customize their character’s appearance, equipment like their broomstick and uniform, and accessories like glasses or a ponytail.

The game is planned for release on PlayStation 4Xbox OneNintendo SwitchPlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though release dates vary by platform. PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC are launching May 5, Nintendo Switch on July 25, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S later in 2022.

Pre-ordering the game will include bonus Red-Sleeved Converse apparel and special edition collectible box.

But it’s not the end, because you can sign up for the closed beta and playtest on the official Quidditch Champions website. I will see you in the closed beta:

The most frequently asked questions (FAQs) so you don’t need to look elsewhere

What is Quidditch Champions?
Quidditch Champions is an online Wizarding World sports game focused exclusively on the popular game of Quidditch. Players can team up with friends, battle against rivals, and prove they’re the finest Seeker around.

Do I need an internet connection?
Yes, Quidditch Champions requires a constant internet connection. The game features online multiplayer, matchmaking, leaderboards, and more which rely on a stable internet connection.

Can I play solo or online?
You can enjoy Quidditch Champions either solo against AI opponents or team up with up to 3 other players for 4v4 online matches. Play with friends or make new rivals in pick-up matches. There are no offline features or single player campaigns however.

How do I create my Champion?
customize your own Champion from head to broomstick. Select different hairstyles, outfits, equipment, and more to make a Champion that stands out on the pitch. Earn new gear and upgrade your broom through progression to become the Champion you dream of being.

When does Quidditch Champions release?
Quidditch Champions releases first on PS4 and Xbox One on May 5, with the Nintendo Switch version following on July 25. The game is available digitally via the PlayStation StoreMicrosoft Store, eShop, and other digital distribution platforms.

Are there any playtesting opportunities?
Yes, interested players can sign up on the official Quidditch Champions website to participate in early playtesting sessions. Playtests are currently scheduled to begin on April 21, with additional sessions to be announced. Playtesting allows chosen applicants to try the game early and provide feedback to the development team before worldwide release.

Does Quidditch Champions have any relation to the books or films?
While set in the Wizarding World created by J.K. Rowling, Quidditch Champions was developed independently from the Harry Potter book series or films. The game explores new areas of the magical universe through Quidditch and remains faithful to Rowling’s original vision, but does not directly adapt any part of the existing stories. Quidditch Champions provides fresh adventures for fans of the Wizarding World.

Does Quidditch Champions have any esports aspirations?
Warner BrosGames did not specify any esports programs or competitions related to Quidditch Champions at this time. The developer aims for the game to excel as an accessible, lighthearted Wizarding World sports experience primarily rather than a major esport. However, players are free to organize their own competitive scenes and tournaments if interest arises following launch.

Conclusion

This is all we know so far, I hope it will be an interesting game like Hogwarts Legacy. My expectations for Quidditch Champions are high given that Quidditch is one of the most loved sports in the Wizarding World and we will finally have the opportunity to experience it fully in a video game. I expect detailed fields, different types of matches with different goals, a wide range of brooms and clothing to unlock, and the ability to choose between different Hogwarts houses for my team.

I would also like the game to support a competitive online mode, possibly with tournaments and records to beat. And of course, it wouldn’t be the same without the customization of my magical alter-ego and equipment to make my flying actions truly spectacular!

And you? Are you ready to play? Tell us what expectations you have and what you think of this game coming out soon!
